О фильме:
Этот гениальный фильм Куросавы с Тосиро Мифуне в роли Кинго Гондо, богатого промышленника, который узнает, что его сын был похищен сумасшедшим, потребовавшим огромный выкуп. Если бы Гондо заплатил деньги, это разорило бы его. Еще до того как Гондо принял решение, его сын возвращается домой, и зритель узнает, что похищен сын его шофера, товарищ детских игр мальчика. Гондо сталкивается с тяжелейшей моральной дилеммой: стоит ли сын шофера столько же, сколько стоит его сын? Когда похититель звонит по телефону и признает свою ошибку, сумма выкупа остается прежней. Первоначально Гондо отказывается, но совесть мучает его...
